Dr. Gideon Rappaport PHD

Gideon Rappaport, Ph.D., also known as “Dr. Rap,” is a retired teacher and active theatrical dramaturge who has taught Shakespeare for fifty years in high school, college, graduate school, and adult education courses and served as dramaturge for professional productions of plays by Shakespeare and others and for the film Complete Works on Hulu, in which he had his film acting debut. He graduated from Cowell College, UC Santa Cruz, and earned his Ph.D. in English and American Literature at Brandeis University. He is co-author of Introduction to the Fundamental Liberal Arts: Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric, editor of Dusk and Dawn: Poems and Prose of Philip Thompson and The Works of Charles Embree. His own works, published by One Mind Good Press, include Appreciating Shakespeare, William Shakespeare’s Hamlet (a thoroughly annotated scholarly edition), Shakespeare’s Rhetorical Figures: An Outline, High School Homilies (a collection of his public talks, reviews, letters to students, and blog posts), and Paradox. They are available through local and online bookstores. He also has a podcast on Buzzsprout called Appreciating Shakespeare with Doctor Rap and a YouTube channel called Shakespeare’s Real Take.
